About the art:
"Noir" is a French word that means "black." In English, it's often used to describe something with a dark, mysterious, or elegant quality. In art and film, "noir" can evoke a mood that's sophisticated, moody, and often dramatic. I loved the idea of using "Noir" in the title of this series because each gallery-wrapped canvas is hand-painted black and the main subjects of the series are dried ferns and roses. I carefully and methodically set each delicate flower and leaf into place, the light flowers contrasting with the dark surface. The outcome radiates “luxury and mystique”… noir! It also makes me think of my favorite wine, Pinot Noir.
